Dr Elaine Westwick (Hendry) is Communications Coordinator for COG-UK, responsible for internal and external scientific events and scientific report writing. Elaine has a PhD in protein crystallography from the University of St Andrews, where she studied the structure of autoantibodies in autoimmune thyroid disease with Professor Garry Taylor. She then worked in bioinformatics and project management at Astex Pharmaceuticals, a fragment-based drug discovery company. Elaine is probably the only person ever to solve a virus structure during an 8-week undergraduate project (Coxsackievirus A9, under the supervision of Professor Dave Stuart, Oxford University). More recently, she trained as a somatic educator and worked as a self-employed science communicator, creating events exploring subjective perceptions of body awareness.
