Professor Oliver Pybus

Professor Oliver Pybus is a COG-UK Principal Investigator for the University of Oxford and a Professor of Evolution and Infectious Disease in the Department of Zoology at the University of Oxford. He investigates the evolutionary and ecological dynamics of infectious diseases, particularly rapidly-evolving viruses. He also develops new methods of genetic analysis based on phylogenetic, phylodynamic and population genetic theory. Professor Pybus is a Professorial Fellow of New College at the University of Oxford and a Co-Director of the Oxford Martin School Programme on Pandemic Genomics. He is a Chief Editor of the open access journal Virus Evolution, and holds a Professorship at the Royal Veterinary College. Professor Pybus and his team are (i) analysing the genetic lineage structure of the SARS-CoV-2 infection in the UK, (ii) quantifying the international movement and importation of virus lineages, and (iii) investigation the dynamics and evolution of virus mutations.
