Professor Matthew Loose

Professor Matt Loose is a COG-UK Principal Investigator for the University of Nottingham and is based at the School of Life Sciences. A developmental biologist and bioinformatician, he heads up DeepSeq, the University of Nottingham next-generation sequencing platform. The DeepSeq lab is equipped with a range of sequencing platforms and provides services for research and industry. Professor Loose has developed a range of tools for long read sequencing including, most recently, adaptive sampling which enables nanopore sequencers to choose which bits of a genome to sequence as they go. He leads the Nottingham COG-UK team and is supported by the local virology teams.
