Dr Will Hamilton

Dr William Hamilton is an academic clinician currently working in infection at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is interested in genomics, global health, malaria, and pathogen evolution. He completed his PhD at the Wellcome Sanger Institute with Professor Dominic Kwiatkowski and Professor Julian Rayner, working on genome mutation and recombination in the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum. During the COVID-19 pandemic he has applied the tools of genomic epidemiology to monitor SARS-CoV-2 transmission in hospitals, care homes and in Cambridge University, with a particular focus on integrating prospective genomic surveillance into hospital infection control processes.
